The Fly Fishers of Virginia (FFV) was established in 1982 to promote the art of fly rod fishing, to foster good sportsmanship, and to promote conservation of the nation’s natural resources. During the year, six dinner meetings are occasions for informational programs pertaining to the many aspects of fly fishing and conservation activities. Programs are presented by international and local experts and celebrities in the fly fishing world, as well as knowledgeable FFV members. Fishing trips are scheduled each year for cold water, warm water, and saltwater species. Fly tying classes, casting clinics, seminars and workshops are offered periodically.
The club, a 501(c)(3) organization, is an affiliate member of Fly Fishers International and also gives financial support to a number of conservation and fly fishing related organizations. In recent years we have provided support to Reel Recovery (Virginia region), Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing, Mossy Creek Restoration Fund, Potomac River Keeper Network, James River Association, Brotherhood of the Jungle Cock (Virginia chapter), VCU Foundation – Rice Center, Coastal Conservation Association, Mayfly Project, Virginia Outdoor Writers Association, and Shenandoah National Park Trust.
Membership is by invitation only. A prospective member must have a sponsoring member begin the process.
